Teachers have the incredible opportunity to evaluate their students as individual learners. Some children are visual learners, others auditory; we all process information at different rates and in varying capacities. With this as our framework, it is not enough to teach in a way that works for MOST students. Frankly, teaching to the “mean” is neglectful. Instead, we must support educators’ efforts to assess individual needs and provide the tools and resources required to meet these needs. This practice will ensure that we are providing an equitable education for ALL students have the opportunity to reach their academic potential.
